Please Read Carefully the Requirements for requesting a Letter of Eligibility as Godparent or Sponsor.
In fulfilling the request to Stand as Godparent or Sponsor, you are stating that you are a person eligible as a Practicing Catholic to transfer, teach, and lead with your Faith to the person you are Sponsoring, in addition to meeting the Canonical (Canon Law of the Catholic Church) requirements below. You also must be a registered parishioner for at least six months.
A Letter of Eligibility from the Pastor is an official statement that You are eligibile to serve as Godparent as you truthfully:
- Are 16 years of age or older,
- Are A fully initiated Catholic, by having received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation and Sacramental Marriage in the Catholic
Church (if requester is a Married person);
- Actively Participate in Sunday Mass, regular reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist, and the life of the parish
- Are living in conformity with church teaching in Married / Single life (not cohabitating / or are Sacramentally Married)
PLEASE NOTE WELL:
An inactive Catholicthat is,
a baptized Catholic who is not practicing their faith,
and not a participating member of the parish,
therefore cannot acquire a Letter of Eligibility.
Again, this letter acknowledges that you are a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, are a practicing Catholic, are at least 16 years of age, Confirmed, (married in the Catholic Church if applicable), and have been an Active and participating member of the parish for at least six months.
Please send requests in writing by e-mailing secretary@stjohnmanayunk.org that will be reviewed by the Pastor within one week for anyone that meets the requirements
above. Letters must be picked up in person at the Rectory and signed by the Sponsor before submitting it to the parish for the Sacrament received.
Please include your name, phone number, the name of the person/child you are sponsoring, and the parish requesting the letter.
